The church was unable to use their building and needed help getting repairs underway. They engaged Hancock Construction to remove the tree and secure the remaining building. Next, they commissioned our firm to design the reconstruction of the sanctuary. As expected, the desire of the property insurer was to repair and re-construct demolished portions of the sanctuary. However, upon our investigation and with the support of the local building authority, the remaining building was deemed unusable. The original foundation walls were found to bear directly on soil with no concrete foundations, and later additions to the building had created an unsafe structural condition.

When the decision was made to remove the old structure in it’s entirety, it gave the design team the opportunity to re-design the building on it’s original footprint. This allowed for correcting misaligned floors into to the adjacent building, the provision of accessibility to the sanctuary, upgraded lighting and mechanical systems to meet modern codes and energy efficiency, and the refurbishing of the remaining building finishes.

The original pointed-arch gothic windows and large front facing gable window were created from old photographs, as well as interior trim features. Stained glass panels have been commissioned for all the windows which will complete the building’s appearance to better than original condition.

The building was re-dedicated to use in late 2018.
